The House of Resurrection Haven offers a secure and sustaining home to children who are infected or affected by HIV/AIDS or abandonment. Our children range in age from one year to 14 years of age. Slightly more than half are HIV positive themselves – all are on ART, go for regular check-ups and screenings, and are taught how to live healthy lives with their HIV status. Our children are integrated into normal community life, attend regular schools, and are encouraged to become valuable citizens of South Africa.
Since December 2010, House of Resurrection Children’s Home has been implementing a foster cluster strategy where one Mother in residence cares for six children in a homelike environment. We already have two cottages on the property. Two Mothers with six children each have moved in. We have architectural drawings and plans to build four more cottages, so that all of our children might have a place to call “home.”
Our Vision – Realizing our full potential
Our vision extends beyond “four walls” surrounding each of our children. We also surround them with normal family interactions that attend to their developmental, health, and spiritual needs. Building on our past, we plan to keep transforming from an orphanage with sick children to a cluster of “homes” with healthy children. Rather than asking for pity for these children, we ask the community to help us unlock their potential!
From the depths of neglect and abuse, the children of HOR are healed. No further harm is done.We know and believe that HOR provides a new beginning for each child, a beginning where anything is possible. We expect each child to “surprise” us – and the community – with his or her unique talents.
We see the children of House going on to further schooling and successful careers. Here at HOR, boys and girls develop into men and women who live their personal best, are proud of their past, and ultimately give back to the community that supported them.
