Save Our Schools And Community (SOSAC) is an education advocacy and community transformation organisation based in Schauderville / Korsten (Port Elizabeth’s Northern Areas) and the city of Grahams town. It was started by a group of socially conscious friends in 2008 who wanted to make a contribution towards education development in their communities of birth and residence.
We are a section 21 non-profit organisation (Reg. no. 2009/004766/08). SOSAC’s Early Childhood Development Centre recently renamed The Little Red Teapot (ECD), crèche, is situated at Adolph Schauder Primary School, Gideon Road, Schauderville, Port Elizabeth. The Schauderville / Korsten area in which Adolph Schauder Primary and our ECD) is situated, is characterized by high and growing unemployment, drug abuse, crime and gang violence. The unemployment in Schauderville is more than 77% with most living of social grants.
Low-cost, high quality ECD provision can ensure a relatively safer and more sound start to life for children, who by accident of birth, grow up in socio-economic difficulty. 90% of our children at the crèche are dependent on social grants, with single parents or either living with their grandmother.
With the establishment of the crèche we are a feeder for the school’s already existing Grade R class. By providing the pre-Grade R class (crèche), the school could ensure that the majority of children coming into Grade R, followed by Grade 1, have been introduced to a quality early childhood development pre-school program.
