The people of the Northern Areas played an important role in the struggle against apartheid. The 1990’s Northern Areas uprisings (6 Days in August) was a highlight in the people’s struggle against the regime. Sophie De Bruin and Lillian Diedericks were among prominent activists. In democratic South Africa, many Northern Areas persons occupied positions in government including, the likes of Donald Lee and Cedrick Frolick. Here, we profile prominent politicians( past and present)  as well as government and state officials( past and present).
