Through our own voice’s we will tell our future generations the story of the Northern Areas. That’s the goal!
Active community participation in the collection process is a key Napedia Objective. We strongly believe that people residing (or have resided) in the NA’s and general interested persons and organisations are one of the best strategies that may be applied when collecting information.
The project team endeavours to collect material and information from several focus areas inter-alia; 1. sport, 2. religious institutions, 3. businesses and NGO’s,4. schools(education),5. government services, 6. history, 7. arts and culture, 8. notable persons and the 9. various suburbs and 10. social issues (children, youth, elderly, women, men).
How can you participate?
We request any interested individuals and organisations to contribute to material and profile’s. In addition, you may point us to individuals or institutions that may provide us with information regarding the NA’s.
Profile guidelines for various focus areas have been placed on the website to assist in profile creation.
You may also want to write opinion pieces on various connected to the Northern Areas.
What Format?
Material and information collection manifests itself in various formats including (but not limited to); 1. directory (telephonic details) 2. historical information 3. research 4. videos 5. podcasts. 6.Interviews 8. photos 9. profiles etc.
Where can you drop it off?
Electronic versions may be emailed to the NAPDI office and hard copies are to be dropped off at the NAPDI office (see contact us for address info). Other drop off’s mechanism’s will be employed in future.
Religious Institutions Profiles
Overview
The Northern Areas has three main religious observance, Christianity, Islam and Hinduism.
The community and any interested persons and organisations are invited to forward relevant material.
After the material has been provided, the Napedia staff will:
- Verify the information
- Compile or provide basic editing of the biography and
- Gain the relevant authorisation from authorised personnel.

The suburbs to be included are those who fall in the historical designation of the Northern Areas; that is, Korsten to Booysen’s Park and , Malabar Bethelsdorp.
The profile will Include:
- Basic Statistically information (If there is available)
- Basic geographical information (area, street)
- Historical information (i.e. when, why, where, who and how it was founded)
- Notable persons who attended/ had membership (Please see notable persons outline)
- Current Presiding Leader
- Photographs
- Any other interesting material (such as recordings, documentaries, speeches etc.)
- Emblem/Logo (if it has)
- Website, Facebook and other social media links, and any other contact details
Northern Areas Notable Persons bio profile requirements and guideline
Overview
Many individuals in the Northern Areas have and continue to excel in various fields. These fields include but are not limited to: sport, business, education, religion, community activism and leadership. Excellence is best defined as, “the best of one’s kind in any field of human activities.” The Northern Areas Notable Persons is a platform to showcase the persons who have or are making a significant contribution and/or succeeding in society. The person may be alive or post-humous.
After information has been provided, the Napedia staff will
- Verify the information
- Compile or provide basic editing of the biography
- Forward it to the relevant authorities to give authorisation.
* Biographies will have to be reviewed before being placed on the website. This will be at the discretion of the relevant persons.

Who is from the Northern Areas?
To be considered a Northern Areas Notable Person, the individual must meet the following criteria:
- Lives/ed in the NA’s
- Schooled in the NA’s
- Works/ed in the NA’s
- Born in the NA’s
What information must be provided?
- At least three reputable reference (either in person or text)
- Full Name and Surname
- Place of birth
- Field
- Place of residence (all places of residence)
- Date of birth
- Education (all forms)
- Work
- Good quality image/images

Overview
There are dozens of suburbs in the Northern Areas, stretching from Korsten to Booysen’s Park as well as Bethelsdorp to Malabar. Each suburb has its own unique story, history and characters. It is Napedia’s goal to unearth as much information and material of the individual areas. The first point of reference about the suburbs will be its basic profile. This document will outline how the profile will be structured and what material will be needed.
The community and any interested persons and organisations are invited to forward any relevant material to Napedia.
