History and origin of its name
Cleary Estate or Bethelsdorp Ext. 10 and 16 was named after the Director of Housing, Mr. D. J. Cleary. Cleary was remembered for his successful promotion of the building houses for all sections of the community.

Cleary park is home to one of the biggest shopping centres in the Port Elizabeth, the Cleary Park Shopping Centre. The mall has more than 100 tenants and over 1400 parking bays. Moreover, it houses a taxi rank which serves as a central transportation hub.
